The Rally on September 15 was a great success!
Numerous speakers came to share their support and give inspirational messages to the community and our membership. Tom Ammiano, president of the Board of Supervisors shared his first hand experiences as a school district employee, reminiscing about how he used to unload the buses. He acknowledged how trying our jobs can be and how we deserve to be treated fairly - he pledged to support us. Reverend Cecil Williams of Glide Memorial United Methodist Church gave a powerful message of hope urging us to have faith in our fight for a fair contract. Kent Mitchell, head of the teachers union, also gave rousing words of support. Other speakers included individuals from the hospital employees union (SEIU 250), living wage coalition and other community leaders and activists. The event was quite moving and a lot of good spirit was shared. A real feeling of solidarity permeated the auditorium as old union songs were sung while dinning on a fabulous dinner prepared by our membership. It was truly inspirational to witness such a show of support for our struggle!
